Blood warning!!
September 14th was one of the coolest days of my life. Well I guess I should start on the 13th, Friday the 13th to be exact. We had been waiting for this baby for a while now. My aunt Courtney was now 41 weeks and 4 days. I got a text around 6am from her saying that she had been having contractions since 3am. I told her to hold that baby in until I was done with work. Luckily she did! But little did we know, that she still had a long ways to go. Shortly after I got there, which was around 5pm, she got checked and was “only” at 4cm. We thought since she had be in labor for over 12 hours that she would’ve been farther along. She decided to get into the birthing pool to help with the pain a bit. But then the baby’s heart rate started to go up because of the warm water so she had to get out.
A couple hours went by and we still didn’t have a baby. Everyone was trying to nap as much as they could in case baby came in the middle of the night. I stayed up for a while and helped Courtney get through her contractions. After a little bit, I decided I should get some rest too. {Mainly because I had to photograph a wedding the next day!}
Around 8am on the 14th, her water finally broke {on the toilet} and things started to move very quickly. We all scrambled around their house to get the birthing pool’s temperature back up but it wasn’t going as fast as we wanted it to. They moved her into the guest room and onto the birthing stool. After 30 hours of back labor and grueling contractions, baby was born. Since they decided to not find out the gender, everyone couldn’t wait to see what it was. As Courtney held baby to her chest, she looked behind the legs and saw a little member sticking out. Her words were “It’s a boy.. we have to try again!”
