Why An Engagement Session Is Vital

January 18, 2019

3 REASONS

We offer complimentary engagement sessions with all of our packages because we think that this is the most important thing you could do to ensure you get great images on your wedding day. Engagement photos are a celebration of you two as a betrothed couple! Anyway, you will spend less time as each other’s fiancé’s than you will at any other point in your relationship! It’s an extremely short period of time and you’ll want to remember what that was like. Engagement sessions celebrate you, your love and your journey ahead along with giving you some beautiful photos to use for Save The Dates, but just how does it ensure you get great images on the wedding day, you ask?

1. COMFORTABILITY

The first is that you’ve probably never had to model in front of a camera together which can cause you to feel uncomfortable. This is totally natural and we were even nervous when we went to have our engagement photos taken! The only way to become comfortable in front of camera is to be in front of camera! It takes a solid 20 minutes before that comfort starts to show up and by the end of your session you will feel confident and so ready for your portrait time in the wedding day!

2. I LEARN ABOUT YOU

The second reason is that we get to learn how comfortable you are in front of camera! We figure out the best angles to photograph you from, which poses look best on you and what makes you guys feel most comfortable in front of camera! It’s a learning g experience and we need that time with you before the wedding day with our cameras to truly make you look your best. We also learn how to communicate with you, how to get you guys to smile and most importantly, it helps us build a relationship with you prior to your wedding day.

3. YOU LEARN ABOUT ME

The third and final reason is that you get to learn how we work! You learn how we pose, how we communicate (sometimes it’s just little hand signals) and you get to connect with us on a shoot so that when your wedding day arrives, you are a pro! Maybe you have had a photo shoot with another professional photographer before and so you might feel that this won’t benefit you, but we probably work very different than they do. We want to give you the full Josiah & Steph Photography experience and build that relationship with you guys! It’s invaluable to us!

There you have it! Those are the three reasons we think the engagement session is one of the most important things you could do to ensure you get great images on the wedding day! We definitely recommend having the engagement session with the photographer who will be shooting your wedding. If you already had an engagement session done with another photographer, it would be beneficial for you to do another shoot with the photographer you hired for your wedding!

We offer complimentary engagement sessions in all of our wedding packages. If you’re getting married, we’d love to hear what you’re planning for your wedding! We hope these quick tips helped!
